I get what he was trying to say, but he shouldn't have gone anywhere near this Tar Baby

If his actual words were "As the Founding Fathers said, it was the necessary evil upon which the union was built....", then this would indicate that he agrees with them that it was a necessary evil. Whether or not that is what he meant to say is open to debate, but calling it 'fake news' is BS.

Here's what he said: "“We have to study the history of slavery and its role and impact on the development of our country because otherwise we can’t understand our country. As the Founding Fathers said, it was the necessary evil upon which the union was built, but the union was built in a way, as Lincoln said, to put slavery on the course to its ultimate extinction.”

Can we just abolish for-profit news organizations altogether? Let's just have a national "5 W's" news network. Who, what, where, when, why. Maybe allow up/down votes based on accuracy. Folks can filter the news stories based on topic or geographic region.
Dreamer.

You know what would be nice? For old wise heads in the news business to form a committee to vet the various news sources, and also the "news" sources -- the shitfarms that label themselves news sources, like Fox, and categorize them on the basis of quality news reporting, and not on bias. I'm out of touch, but as an example, C-SPAN would get an A rating, and so on. Sort of like a News Better Business Bureau. Completely impartial on everything except truthfulness and thoroughness and professionalism. People can still go anywhere they want, but they'd know what they were looking at.
Sigh.

What you're asking for is less commentary - i.e. less news programming.
There isn't a news organization in the world that wants that to happen.

There isn't a news organization in the world that wants that to happen.Like what used to be called an op-ed page, you mean? That would be okay, so long as op-ed stuff was prominently and unambiguously labeled op-ed.

What would work is that every news broadcaster has a 30 minute limit on how much they can broadcast at a time, no more than three times a day. The rest of the day should be filled with cartoons.
We all know the world would be improved immeasurably.
