I think for sure, decline is going to happen, whether it is a product, company, sports team, country, etc. If you stretch the timeline out long enough, it is pretty much impossible to stay on top.

And it actually, may not be a true decline, it is just the fact that others have caught up and gotten better. Doesn't mean that the product, company, etc has gotten worse.

I think there is a lifecycle to almost everything, and I add the almost only as a precaution. Do we have to follow the same path of decline as the author states? No, we have a lot more tools these days. But there are some similarities.

Why the author brings up only Rome's decline?

Surely there have been many other declines of other nation-states.

Could it be that Rome's decline is the only nation-state decline that the author has some familiarity with?

Maybe the author should read more history.
