Hamas attacks Israel

These aren’t chess moves. This is picking up the board and beating people over the head with it because you keep losing.

Yes, and potentially a "Let's see how dedicated the US really is to Israel" if Israel gets into trouble. I wasn't alive for it, but the 6 day war outcome is impressive.
Impressive is kind of dismissive. It was frigging insane, unbelievable, and miraculous. As was their survival and victory in the Arab- Israeli war in 1948.

@Horace They do that? How rude.
We had a particularly memorable one with my infant son, who was expecting a single shot, and then they got him in both legs simultaneously. The howls of outrage were really quite something.

Reminiscent of the bed springs and frame the Red Army welded to their tank turrets to deflect and neutralize panzerfaust charges during the Battle for Berlin in ‘45:

I wonder what strategic purpose that announcement serves.

I was thinking it was more motivated by domestic politics. There must be a faction that is worried that, by delaying so much, he's getting 'soft' and beginning to worry about outside voices.
-
That's as of today. A couple days ago it was 'White House requests delay for negotiations over hostages and supplies'. Before that there was delay but no stated reason. Ever since 10/10 or so various reports said it was 'imminent'.
Obviously I have no idea what's going on, what's realistic and not, etc. But neither does the average Israeli citizen, Hence my thought that there must be some wondering if he's getting soft.

It's the carrier groups, I think. One is tasked with making sure the Iranians are good lads. The other is going to keep an eye on Hezbollah. That's around 130 planes total on the carriers and who knows how many missiles on the other ships
