An article on what could have been had McCarthy or the GOP is more open to bipartisanship. In there is also a list of bills with broad bipartisan support (have many co-sponsors from both major parties) that are not getting to the floor because of partisanship.
-
Funny, I don't remember you being worried about bipartisanship when Pelosi was speaker.
Must of missed it.
-
There was no worry about the House causing a federal government default or federal government shutdown when Pelosi was speaker. With or without bipartisanship, the House Democrats know how to govern. The same cannot be said of the House Republicans in light of recent history. House Republicans, when they have the majority in the House, cannot be trusted to be left to their own devices. Bipartisanship or non-partisanship is sorely needed by the House Republicans.

Bipartisanship or non-partisanship is sorely needed to by the House Republican.
Remind me, how many Democrats voted to retain McCarthy?
Zero Democrat voted to retain McCarthy.
Do you think that fact supports or undermines my thesis that "bipartisanship or non-partisanship is sorely needed by the House Republicans"?

Mr. Pedantic, you knew exactly what George meant. Why don't you just answer the question?

I am not obligated to speculate on what else George might mean outside of his written words.

I have already answered George's question.

Yep, complete and utter obfuscating bullshit.

@George-K said in Will McCarthy be Vacated from Speakership? Who Will Succeed McCarthy?:
Why are the Democrats so hell-bent on stopping the business of governing the country?
It's the House Democrats who provided the necessary votes that averted a federal government shutdown. The Senate Democrats and the Democratic White House are also doing their part in continuing to govern.
Only 8-10 would have prevented this. But they voted party over nation, again.
Only 8-10 votes from the House Republicans could have joined the House Democrats to elect a Speaker not beholden to the tantrums of the likes of Gaetz. That could have, and still can, lead to a more functional House of Representatives. That would be good service to the nation.

And yet, to a man, they voted to remove McCarthy. How does this mean that they want to govern? A bipartisan approach would have kept him in office. At least 8 brave GOP representatives broke with the ranks of their party and allied with the Democrats to forward their vision. That's bipartisanship.

McCarthy could have cut a deal with the House Democrats when he first ran for Speaker; that could have been bipartisan. McCarthy didn't, instead he gave in to the demands of Gaetz et al., thus sewn the seed of his own destruction. BAD.
-
McCarthy cut a deal with the Democrats to raise the debt ceiling; that's bipartisan, that saved the federal government from default. GOOD!
-
McCarthy put up a funding bill sufficiently palatable for the House Democrats to support; that's bipartisanship, that averted a government shutdown. GOOD!
-
McCarthy could have cut a deal with the House Democrats to save his Speakership. McCarthy chose not to, that's not bipartisanship. The result is a House without a Speaker. BAD.
Maybe you expect the Democrats to simply support McCarthy without getting anything in return. But that would be all "give" and no "take" on one side. All give and no take on one side is not bipartisanship.

Indeed your version may work too, see points #1 and #4 and the paragraph right below point #4 above.

The eight Republicans that voted to vacate. Most of them make a pretty good case.

I hope Ax realizes Congress hasn't passed a true budget since W was in office.

Are the other 210 House Republicans wrong to not join these eight Republicans? Or do the other 210 House Republicans have good cases too?

FFS.
There are reasons to totally ignore some people...
