Will McCarthy be Vacated from Speakership? Who Will Succeed McCarthy?

@Jolly said in Will McCarthy be Vacated from Speakership? Who Will Succeed McCarthy?:
The MAGATs, as y'all so gleefully call them, are a third, maybe more, of the party.
Go ahead, piss 'em off.
Enjoy the Biden Death Watch for four more years
With all due respect, the more extreme third of the party just went a long way toward assuring that very result.
-
What was the point of this snippy little action? Good, lord, the GOP needs to stay clear away from this stuff. Now you can say this is a punishment for backing the McCarthy ouster, but why would the Dems not want to help the GOP shoot itself in the foot?

Yeah, I have a hard time with that too. While I respect him a lot, the illness going to get in the way.
I think I'd prefer Jordan.
Jordan is a firebrand. Won't work.

Steve Scalise has also thrown his hat into the ring.
I'm a bit surprised. Steve has cancer.
I saw him walking and (barely) talking down a hallway today. He looked frail and dyspneic. Granted, it could be the chemo for his myeloma, but he didn't look too robust.

Have the MAGA folks shown any inclination whatsoever to compromise?
Why should the 70% kowtow to the 30%?

No need to get snippy. We’re not so far apart, but my way or the highway just doesn’t fly in this nation. This was a tantrum and makes the GOP look unable to govern responsibly. Huge unforced error.

Because without that 30%, you're not getting elected President or getting elected to any national office in many districts or states.

They act like spoilt, petulant children, and the rest of the party is supposed to blow them? They shriek about election fraud with precious little evidence, they kick people out who dare to work with the other side of the aisle, they refuse to compromise?
Does it occur to you that maybe they're the bad guys here?

But if the 30% continues to act like they have been, then history will repeat itself.
No "red wave" in Congress
No Republic President

Trump could be Speaker....
Maybe not.

(b) If a member of the Republican Elected Leadership is indicted, the Republican Conference shall meet and elect a Member to temporarily serve in that position.
(c) If a member of the Republican Leadership resigns pursuant to this rule, and subsequently during that Congress is acquitted or the charges are dismissed or reduced to less than a felony as described in paragraph (a), such Member shall resume the position from which they resigned, unless the Republican Conference decides otherwise within 10 legislative days.

Thanks for that. Interesting that it's just the indictment, not actual conviction.

An article on what could have been had McCarthy or the GOP is more open to bipartisanship. In there is also a list of bills with broad bipartisan support (have many co-sponsors from both major parties) that are not getting to the floor because of partisanship.
-
Funny, I don't remember you being worried about bipartisanship when Pelosi was speaker.
Must of missed it.
-
There was no worry about the House causing a federal government default or federal government shutdown when Pelosi was speaker. With or without bipartisanship, the House Democrats know how to govern. The same cannot be said of the House Republicans in light of recent history. House Republicans, when they have the majority in the House, cannot be trusted to be left to their own devices. Bipartisanship or non-partisanship is sorely needed by the House Republicans.

Remind me, how many Democrats voted to retain McCarthy?
Zero Democrat voted to retain McCarthy.
Do you think that fact supports or undermines my thesis that "bipartisanship or non-partisanship is sorely needed by the House Republicans"?

Mr. Pedantic, you knew exactly what George meant. Why don't you just answer the question?
