Yes, when a storm comes from the east and south east it pushes the water into Hampton Roads and up the Chesapeake Bay and rivers (Potomac, York, James, Rappahannock). Everything backs up.

We live on a Creek off the James where we see this action regularly. Given the direction of this storm we could see some really high rivers and creeks. The neighborhood is 30 feet above sea level so we will just get wet. But I expect we'll see a lot of unusually high water.

Anyone's guess! Could be a nothingburger, could turn the roads to oatmeal. We're in a safe spot in terms of flooding but hard to say what'll happen down the road.

          Please love yourself.

And CNU is roughly 30 feet above sea level too. They should be safe from any surge, but might see some local flooding.

Yeah, I already told the kid to just make sure he’s stocked in food and spend the weekend in his dorm/apartment. His girl lives off campus in a 1 story house that has me a little concerned about localized flooding. No sump-pumps so I advised her to just get everything (especially electronics and power cables) off the floor and to spend the weekend at Luke’s…

BTW, folks, there's another disturbance in the African Train and it looks like it will make cyclone status in the next 24 hours. It's way out there and will be traveling West for a couple of days before turning NW.

We’re still not seeing the worst of it. The eye is still somewhere near Wilmington, NC, I believe. The weird thing is it’s cutting a little more inland. Luke and @Copper are to the East of the main line of the storm. Richmond and DC are directly in the path, but by the time it gets here it will be a depression and not a full blown storm.

I’m in Smithfield about 10min. or so from Copper. Spoke too soon on the power. Been out now for about an hour. Getting bands of wind/rain with lulls in between but not too bad.
