Been a thing for awhile. I mean I get it, but why not call it something new? You're never going to convince people it's a better option by referring to your product as an alt to the original.

Reminds me of a company called “modern picnic” that makes vegan leather insulted lunch bags and other “yeti products but for women”. Heard them on The Pitch, a fun podcast I listen to that has startups pitching for investor capital.

May be plastic, may be plant-based cellulose.
