LOL. My computer run team in the work league went up against the “#1” team in the league this week. The asshat was sending me smack talk today because while I was up by 6, I only had a minor RB left in this game and he had Josh Allen. Of course he was going to win!
Snort.
Should I tell him he lost to a Computer run draft and the optimize lineup button?

Rodgers out for the season with an achilles tear.
And this means the Packers don't get a first round pick next year, because that was contingent on Rodgers playing 65% of the snaps. Yep this is why it sucks to be a football fan. For both the Packers and Jets now. One play, four plays into the season.

As someone who has had an achilles tendon injury, I can tell you that it'll never be the same. My injury caused me to walk, just a little different because of the weakness on that side. That "different" walk caused a bit of scoliosis about 10 years later, and back issues 10 years after that.
I wonder if they'll do a surgical repair or let it heal while immobilized.
Have other athletes recovered to their pre-injury level of play after something like this?

How is that different for fans of Baseball? Basketball? Soccer? Gymnastics?
Hell, it goes well beyond sports… How about music? Any of our favorite pianists can injure their hands tomorrow. It happens more often than you think. Tyler from Aerosmith just had to cancel the farewell tour because of damage to his vocal chords… Aging performer that can’t continue any more due to injury… Sucks for the fans…

They have. It takes about a year and most players do not regain the power if their first step. The Saints drafted a DT high in the first round. He was a bit injury-prone, suffering a broken leg, but his main injury was an achilles.
He's still in the league, but he's not been the disruptive force he could have been. As a young player, he came off the ball with exceptional quickness and penetration.

In Aaron's case, the guy is almost 40. At best, he only had this year and maybe one or two more. I suspect this is the end of his career.

It seems like it happens constantly in the NFL. For baseball fans, I don't think they have to deal with their favorite players missing games and seasons due to injury, nearly as much.

While no fan wants to see their favorite players injured, it is a part of the game and often times can be the most compelling parts of the game… Ben Roethlisberger coming off the bench with a badly injured shoulder to lead a final scoring drive to win a playoff game… Drew Brees coming back from a shoulder that would have ended many other players careers only to go on and have a potential HOF career…
Another aspect that’s compelling is
To see somebody else rise up when the starter is injured… Cam Heyward (one of my favorites) went down with groin injury Sunday. That hurts. A lot… But the rookie DL that replaced him played a respectable game. That raises my interest considerably. I want Cam back, but I also want to see if this rookie takes advantage of the opportunity before him.Of course, it could be that we see it differently because my fandom is more about the team and not one particular player…

If any Jets fan came away from the game last night with more interest and enjoyment from their fandom because of the random injury setback, my hat's off to them. I think that is a rare sort of fan though.

Not more not less. Do you believe that the vast majority of Jet fans weren’t Jet fans before Aaron Rodgers? Do you think many will abandon their interest with Rogers out? And I’ll say this, they weren’t sitting on their hands moping while that kid ran back that punt in overtime… They were fully into it… It’s about the team…

Well the Jets invested a huge amount of resources into a player they'll get nothing out of this season. Personally that would disappoint me and make me enjoy the whole process of fandom a bit less. Over time I decided the random dice rolls where your team got decimated weekly, brought me under the threshold for enjoying the whole process. But, people differ.
