Happy Birthday!

Okay, this was driving me crazy, so I dug out my ancient dessert recipe file (stuff collected before the Internet! Like, clippings!) and searched for this cherries in Barolo recipe.
Found many nice things. Hazelnut & Chocolate Pithiviers. Fresh Fruit Saute w/Rich Cream Biscuits. Balsamic Strawberry & Raspberry Shortcakes. Rocky Road Ice Cream. Oh yeah -- suffer, ye bourgeoisie.
Found it! Here it is:
Ciliege Al Barolo (Cherries in Barolo Wine)
2 lbs large pitted sour cherries
1-1/2 cups sugar
2-1/2 cups Barolo
1-1/2 cups whipping cream, whippedCombine cherries, sugar and wine in a small pan, ideally earthenware. Slowly bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until cherries are soft, about 30". Cool. Pour into glass bowl and cover with whipped cream Serve with glasses of Barolo.
Okay, it was a little more complex than I remembered, but now you know I wasn't making it up.

There isn't really anything in wine better than a great Barolo.
Remember the other day when I suggested you dunk your cherries in the wine? I was trying to recall a recipe I had once -- I can't, but it had to do with cherries in Barolo.
Srsly.
Anyone who soaks cherries in a good Barolo deserves neither. Blasphemy. Expensive blasphemy.

I wish, bach. There isn't really anything in wine better than a great Barolo.
Btw Iβve been to the town of Barolo.
Small little country town in gorgeous piedmont countryside. Wasnβt particularly crowded. You sit at a little osteria on a patio and pick which Barolo by the glass u want, not expensive at all.
All around are grape vines and hazel nut trees. ( the area is also where Nutella was born, chocolate and hazel nut spread)
What a lovely place.
