I still think elections revolve around kitchen table issues, mostly economic ones.
IMO, the major issues this election cycle:
- The economy
- The economy
- Education
- Abortion

Do you think that abortion is a "kitchen table" issue? Perhaps in the sense that it drives those that sit around the table to support one candidate vs another, but it doesn't affect their lives in the manner of the first three.

Abortion is an issue for people who feel really, really strongly about abortion, in whichever direction.
But how they vote is pretty much a given anyway.

I would guess that's actually a pretty small number.
But how they vote is pretty much a given anyway.
Yup. That was kind of my point.

A cynic might say that the best way of ensuring a good voter turnout is to keep promising something that people want, but then find ways to be thwarted so that you can continue to promise it.
Once it's put in place, the one-issue voters stop bothering to vote.

While the Dems are pretty much abortion until birth, and some would kill the baby after it's born, some Republicans are offering a compromise number. Trump has floated a trial balloon of 15 weeks.
I've heard the same figure mused about by a couple of other GOP politicians.Personally, I think SCOTUS got it right. It's a state issue. The national GOP has done a lousy job of explaining Dobbs to the voters. OTOH, the MSM has certainly vilified them to no end.

"On the kitchen table, with a coat hanger."
One of the murder scenarios in the updated 21st Century version of "Clue: Never Stop Talking About Abortion edition".

This is the beauty of the unachievable goal of total group equality, or the total eradication of racist things caught on video.

Sorry didn’t mean to activate the both sides are equal response. I know it’s early for that and you may not have stretched yet.

It's an equal and opposite reaction to "Getting back to the race narrative and how much the Democrats suck..."

These days the GOP fears the abortion issue so bad that they dread any election that has abortion as an issue on the ballot.
Ohio's recent Aug.8 "Issue 1" special election shows you to what great lengths the GOP is willing to go to not have abortion appear as an issue on the ballot.

The supreme court was not acting as the strategy wing of the GOP, that is for sure.

I have to admit it'll be amusing if he wins in 2024. With these shenanigans, it seems all but inevitable that he'll have the nomination. I thought there was a chance he'd be beaten in the primaries if America had some distance from the drama and time to reflect, but obviously that won't be happening.
