Petition demands Washington Commanders restore 'proud symbol' to franchise
A Native American group that's demanding the Washington Commanders bring back their "Redskins" name says they have received "overwhelming" support in their fight against the NFL team.
The Native American Guardians Association (NAGA) petition to "put an end to cancel culture and #ReclaimTheName ‘Redskins’" is nearing 100,000 signatures as the NFL season approaches.
"The deep, rich history behind the name, the myth that it means bloody scalps or something derogatory is what we're trying to dispel," NAGA adviser and Kiowa Tribe member Billy Dieckman told "Fox & Friends First" on Tuesday. "It's a status symbol for elite warriors."

WASHINGTON (TND) — The Native American group behind a petition to reverse the name change of the Washington Commanders is taking aim at another major franchise that previously boasted ties to Native American imagery.
A petition launched Monday by Native American Guardians Association (NAGA) founder Eunice Davidson seeks to reverse a 2021 decision by the Cleveland Guardians to rebrand the organization, dropping its previous moniker of the "Indians."
Though the decision was made to avoid alienating Native American fans, those who signed Monday's petition say they saw the move as erasure of years of proud tradition.
