The Democrats could conceivably bear some responsibility for the lack of security, but to state that Pelosi is primarily responsible for this shit-show seems to rather be overlooking the big fat orange Republican elephant in the living room.

    I know, I know, TDS.

    I was only joking

@Horace said in Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund talks about Jan 6:

Of the many symptoms of TDS, one is that sufferers will be unable to think clearly about the fact that, with appropriate security, January 6 would have been a non-event, useless for political messaging going forward.

Now imagine if the most transparently fragile human being ever to have a prominent role in American political life had had a more normal psychological makeup. Think of how much better off the country would be, and the GOP for that matter, not to mention the thousands of individual lives ruined by credulous imbecility.

Yes deflection is one way to avoid thinking clearly.

Unlike you, I am able to think clearly about things related to Trump. And I am able to wholeheartedly agree that he would have been better for the country and better for the GOP if he'd been more able to accept the L.

That's actually more than most Trump haters would be able to admit. Thank you.

Hence the popularity of threads like these among our Trump-voting members.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

A large group of Trump supporters harmlessly invade the Capitol, exercising their constitutional rights to wander around the building, doing absolutely nothing wrong.

            And it's the Democrats fault.

I do believe Trump said "peacefully".

I do find that in marked comparison to the Floyd riots.

“Cry havoc and let slip the DOGE of war!”

Yes, it partially is. And some of the riot may be the fault of FBI informants or plants within the crowd.

Here's the problem...While even the most ardent Trump supporters among us will acknowledge what the crowd did was wrong - and do not forget, it was a very small minority of the crowd. If the main crown would have surged and rioted they could have torn the whole damn thing to the ground and danced on the rubble. - the holier-than-thou opposition admits no fault.

Pure as the driven snow is Ms. Pelosi. Pure as the driven snow is the FBI, who had intelligence operators scattered throughout the crowd.

Until the TDS sufferers can acknowledge that maybe some fault lies on their side of the line, fuck 'em. They don't want a dialogue, just a bloody pulpit.

At some point it becomes a test of whether one enjoys socially encouraged hatreds. It’s never hard to detect the whiff of those who do. Who knows how many discouraged hatreds they politely keep to themselves, only to find outlet in these joyous opportunities to spew at a target like Trump and his supporters.

"Sorry" certainly hasn't been one of them.

You know, you're blaming the crowd, but you're not pinning any of the responsibility of Trump himself. And he sure as shit hasn't acknowledged any fault.

So give it a rest with the 'holier than thou' accusations while Donald Trump continues to portray himself as some kind of prophet of freedom and justice, and his followers consider to absolve him of any blame.

Does anyone have any thoughts about what the Capitol Police chief had to say?

"Now look here, you Baltic gas passer... " - Mik, 6/14/08

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

I thought that’s what we are talking about when we consider the intention behind the lack of security.

I've been mentioning since Jan 7 that if the Trump haters were legit concerned that Jan 6 was a threat to our democracy, they'd have directed at least 1% of their outrage, at the lack of security. Since they never have and never will, we can know that it's all political opportunism. TDS sufferers were elated at January 6.

It's similar to a woke person catching a conservative saying something racist. They're not actually worried that the conservative did damage by saying something racist. They're just thrilled that their world view and sense of purpose in life, has been confirmed.

Maybe some introspection is in order. Might be interesting for some to ask themselves why the average joe seems to be more angry? And why do I think that Trump supporters are stupid and racist?

During Trump's term, I didn't have to go out shopping to be confronted with political rage, I'd get it right at work, where I needed to make my living. The morning after Trump was elected, a white woman I worked with cornered me in a conversation where she told me her nine year old son cried at the previous night's results. She wasn't trying to blame me, she was just assuming anybody she might talk to, would totally understand. She needed shoulders to cry on that day. Over the course of the rest of Trump's term, random "fuck Trump"s could be heard at random times in the halls and conference rooms.

As for the crying nine year old, the only thought I had in my head at that story, was that she was a shitty mother for dumping her political anxieties on her child to that extent. She thought she was telling me how a pure innocent child felt about Trump, when she was actually telling me how she programmed her child to feel about Trump.

Isn't it funny how, when it comes to a face-to-face encounter with one of "those people," all that pent-up resentment goes away and you can have a civil, even pleasant conversation about unrelated stuff - even buying gas?

Ironic that people are outraged at the "anger" in flyover country but are themselves so angry that they won't do business or have social interactions there.

OTOH, you can bet your sweet ass if some Trump supporter approached him, wanting him to do a multi-million dollar construction project, he would have no problem doing a job for the person.

Or that he would never engage in a bid for a project, unless he knew the politics of the people involved.
