So we just got back from a 6 day Airbnb stay. Now I am not going to list all of the many issues with the place… Okay, I will list a few… The well water was dubious at best.. when we ran the water on Monday morning the smell was nauseating. The host sent the neighbor over to drop some bleach into the well. It helped the smell about 80%, but nobody trusted the water for cooking and barely for showers… The other issue was the AC. Reached out to the guy on Tuesday to let him know the heat pump wasn’t blowing. Was told there would be an AC guy out on Wednesday… Then Thursday… Then Friday… Never saw him. It got so bad that we eventually pulled a bunch of mattresses into the one room extension that did have a solo air conditioner and everyone wound up sleeping in there.

Whatever, the guy’s having a bad week, it’s a semi rustic rental, and so on, right?

Just got a message from the host claiming we broke a kitchen light fixture… Now it’s going to get interesting…

I'm sure you have time-stamped communications about all the problems you experienced.

Might be worth filing a complaint with the credit card company about this, and threaten to dispute the charge.

Oh, what other issues ... just curious, LOL.

Yeah, your credit card company is your best friend here, also Airbnb management.

When I had a dispute about a cat purchase (the cat I put a payment down for arrived sick, and was offered an alternative) I went to Chase. They asked me to document communications with the seller. Took about a week, but my $$ was refunded.

U can give them an awful review but you run the risk of the host giving you a bad review. And I’m sure hosts read reviews of potential guests before saying yes to a rental request. I always read reviews before renting and immediately nix any rental getting a bad one.

We’ve done Airbnb maybe about 5 or 6 times and never had a bad experience. Although most of those were in Europe but our recent Maine place was just great.

The pain in the ass is he can post a review on me as a guest that I can’t see unless I post a review on him…
