USS Iowa navigating the Gaillard cut in the Panama Canal 1984

If you have the time, McCollough’s “the path between the seas” about the building of the Panama Canal is fascinating. The Gaillard cut is a man made trench cut into the floor of the jungle to connect the two sides of the emerging canal.

Great book, as much of McCullough's stuff is.
