I've never been able to watch any of the hard-core war movies like this one and Apocolypse Now -- they seemed too horrific. Maybe I could watch them now, but I'm not sure.

I need to revisit this movie - and, I'm ashamed to say, I've never watched it all the way through. I've always found the 1st half, the boot camp stuff, so compelling and disturbing, that I stopped watching. I have no idea about the 2nd half of the movie!

Haven't seen it in maybe 20 years, but it's a classic for sure.
