Why Modern Movies Suck

Andrew Klavan on today's movies.
He makes an interesting point - the art form is aging out. Every art from has an early peak, and at that peak, popularity and art are one and the same. For film, according to Klavan, that was in 1939, when the most popular films were also the best films. He claims the same can be said of Shakespeare - he was popular and he was really really good.
And then, film diverged into two things: 1) Movies that made money - the action-hero films and 2) Movies that no one wanted to see but were very good.
