      I'd like to get a smoker but maybe in a couple years when I have a bit more time.

        That's accurate if "in a couple of years," you mean about 25-30.

          LOL you're probably right.... today with a 4, 2 and a 0 year old. My schedule very generally looks like this:

          • Sleep (whenever I can, usually 11pm-5am, if the kids behave)
          • Work 6am-3pm
          • Kids/cleaning 3-5pm
          • Dinner 5-6pm
          • Bedtime/bath 6-8pm
          • Shower, clean, maybe TV, then to bed
          • Weekends? Usually juggling kids stuff and trying to do house or yard projects

          But seeing how independent our 4 year old is, I'd imagine when our youngest is 4, the fog of taking care of toddlers will begin to lift and time/flexibility will make a (minor) return for my hobbies.

            First off, a Weber or Broil King are your best brands. You'll be cooking for five, so you'll need at least a three burner model. I've had side burner models and never used the side burner. YMMV. CharBroil is making some better grills lately but they are temporary. They won't last very long. Broil King makes a less expensive line called Broil Mate. I had one for ten years that sat outside uncovered. When I got rid of it it still worked fine, but I got a great deal on a used Broil King Signet 320 which has performed admirably for me for several years now.

            Webers are pricey, but they stand behind their product and they are a dream to cook on.

            Do you have a truck or a van? If so, you might do well to shop around on FB Marketplace. There are a lot of good used grills for sale and you don't have to assemble them.

            A sear function is good, but I wouldn't call it a must.

              @Mik Perfect, as always thanks for your advice. The side burner looks cool in the videos, but I agree I have yet to use it (there is a [rusty] one on the current grill). The Weber models look good, lots of variation between them. Funny enough I have found having a nice large area to prep or hold food on the side is quite important lol. But all the models seem to have that.

                    I use the side burner occasionally. Usually during a power outage to make coffee or cook something in a skillet.

                          Great! Now go get the pre-marinated Cilantro Lime Flank Steak from Costco's Take & Bake area. Toss it on the grill at 450-500 for 4 minutes a side (brush with marinade during flips), then 30 seconds per side for contrasting grill marks. Then enjoy. I'm embarrassed in all of the prep work I've put into prepping flank steak before and it never came out anywhere close to as good as this...

                                  @Mik Yes Ace will assemble at their store and deliver it. They'll also haul away the old one. It's one reason I went with them, for sure. And that recipe looks delicious, even at 6am!
