I saw these rumors quite a while ago, and when I checked it out, it was false. I think I looked at Snopes back then.

I think the collaboration smear conveniently and coincidently started around the time of the presidential elections in Georgian in 2003 and Ukraine 2004. It was quickly picked up by pseudo-conservatives in the West.
