Maher should've adopted Tucker's Resting Offended Face for true authenticity.

          Please love yourself.

Works for me. I like Shapiro and Maher has proven himself pretty logical lately.

He hasn't changed his beliefs at all. He's attacking the far left more than the right these days, probably because it makes sense for what he sees as his show's role in political discussions, but his positions haven't really changed that much.

What kills me is that my parents are both huge Maher fans. But they still aren't aware that wokeness exists and is a thing, let alone its influence in basically everything. I really don't know how to square those two things.

                    Please love yourself.

Shapiro is a smart guy and is fun to listen to from time to time.

You get the sense that's he's very captured by his audience though - sometimes he takes positions that I don't think he really believes, just to be more aligned with his listeners.

I'm not sure that's true. He himself said that conservatives tend to pick up on the 5 minutes of him condemning the left and ignore the remaining 25 minutes of him bashing Republicans.

But, I like Maher a lot more than I used to, and most of what he says resonates.

Compared to the 90s? When he didn't attack liberal ideals basically at all, ever? Yeah, I'd say things are different now.

I wonder if that was because he was establishing himself as a darling of the left and he dared not criticize them.

Of course, that all went in the crapper with his "brave" comment in 2001. It took a while to rebuild his "politically incorrect" credentials.

Now, he's probably at that point in his career where he just DGAF, and if his "new" controversial statements get more eyeballs, that's good for business, amirite?

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

I don’t think it is so much liberalism that Maher attacks but rather wokism and cancel culture which has far more in common with the extreme left - what was once referred to as Jacobinism - than the mushy centre left.

The mainstream left has gone religious, so that would make sense.

I am reminded of the tweet Jon linked to some time ago, where an academic deep thinker was doing some deep thinking about why people these days aren't getting conservative with age. The intellectual in question, decided it had a lot to do with his generation simply not being convinced that the right truly cares, and without that true caring, their policies are actually irrelevant.

                                    Education is extremely important.
