I love movies. Love. Haven’t had much time recently to watch but did see Top Gun. Very fun, worthy if there was an Oscar for “reminding folks why going to the movies is worth it” but otherwise not really an award worthy movie.
Used to watch the Oscar’s religiously. Last few years I’ve stopped (didn’t even know it was on today) because of the politicization and holier than thou statements.

So far, not too much of that (though I didn't hear Kimmel's monologue).
The most popular "in word" seems to be "diverse," FWIW.

"Who identifies...."
That’s unsustainable because identifying as black is, and will always be, third rail. I think the CRT mob actually has some hand waving justification for why identifying as different skin colors is wrong, while identifying as different genders is ok.

I would still like to know what the dividing line is for black? 25%? Does it make a difference what the other 75% is? 75% Caucasian, no deal. 50% Caucasian, 25% black, 25% Hispanic and you're in?

Yeoh was born on 6 August 1962 in Ipoh, Perak,[13] to a Malaysian Chinese family of Hokkien and Cantonese ancestry.[14][15] Her parents are Janet Yeoh and Yeoh Kian-teik (died on 5 November 2014), a lawyer and Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) politician.[16][17] She grew up speaking Malay and English, and could not read or write Chinese.[18] She expressed that lack as her "greatest regret" in 2022.[19] Despite that, she learned to speak Cantonese fluently in the 1980s and some Mandarin in the 2000s.
Her ancestry and upbringing are Asian. Despite not speaking Chinese in her youth, Malay is also an Asian language, so she also speaks Asian in her youth as well.

Nobody denies that she has justification for calling herself Asian. But the concept of “identifying as” implies a simple personal choice, regardless of justification. Which brings up the question of whether we all have that choice for any other choice of race. Where the rubber meets the road for such choices is of course identifying as black. The only reason we haven’t had the social discussion yet is because people are terrified of trying, as everybody knows doing so is punishable by the social death penalty.
