I think a red tide could be comin'.

Here's why I think so.
- Politics is always downstream to culture.
- Within a culture timeline, you see something like: comedians -> tv & movies -> ads -> the slant of the news. Comedians are first because it's their job to verbalize things we all feel, but haven't yet articulated. Also, they're one-person shows. It's far easier for them to be flexible and change their material, so they're more agile.
- We're already tired of woke messaging. CNN is experiencing a 10-year low in viewership, while Fox continues to make slow gains. In TV and movies, woke stuff is seeing diminishing returns in terms of views and revenue. But you might say, "so what, they keep making the stuff, don't they? Nothing's going to change." Well, they're downstream to comedians. They change much more slowly.
- If your culture's healthy, comedians perform with a variety of topics and nothing is off the table. When it starts to get unhealthy, there are unmentionable topics comedians won't touch because they know better. When a shift happens, comedians shift from whatever their act used to be to now include how fucked up it is that there are unmentionable topics. And that's exactly where we are now. Bill Burr, Dave Chappelle, Louis C.K., Chris Rock, Mark Normand, Jerry Seinfeld and Jimmy Carr are all the folks most people are watching right now, and they've all attacked woke censorship in their own way on multiple occasions. And most of them aren't getting cancelled over it because their audiences have had enough, too.
The news hasn't changed, ads haven't changed, and TV and movies have barely changed. But people have already started ignoring them, and comedians now feel comfortable enough to attack woke politics more directly.
It's going to seep into politics, and this opportunity is entirely for conservatives to seize or lose. Sadly for them, they've shown a remarkable track record of not understanding how culture works, so they'll likely fumble.

Oh I still think it's coming. I don't think 2022 was the right time for it.
There's a massive cultural vacuum right now, and it's not exactly a conservative one, although there are a lot of overlaps. It's more "masculine" vs "feminine". We're so ridiculously all in on "feminine" arts and culture right now. It's a really good time to make something else.
But, sadly, conservatives worship at the altar of the local businessman, not arts & humanities, so in terms of failed opportunities, that's a huge one they should fill but never will.

It seems our opinions on American culture have some fundamental similarities.

2022 was supposed to be a red wave. While it was disappointing that we didn’t see it, remember that waves are what we see on the surface. A tide is movement underneath, and I think we are already experiencing the beginnings of the red tide starting at the local level.
Loudoun County has already changed 2 of their more problematic board members. We’ve seen similar all over the country… The next two elections can see a complete overhaul of politics at the local level. Our liberal DA Buta Biberaj will also be thrown out soon. That momentum should also carry over to County Commissioners and other local elections. It will also likely carry over to the state level. I believe our local state legislator will pay a price for opposing Sophie’s Law and other regulations to protect parental rights…
Now I still think the county will lean D for US Senate, House, etc… but the numbers will be cut yet again…

I think we are seeing a rejection of all things extreme and harmful, be they right or left. Real problems with extreme abortion bans are starting to show up and I think they will be dealt with. Hopefully we come to an unhappy middle ground. I think there is a thirst for ethical competence in our government.

It would be really nice if we could just have normal shit for a while. There has to be a place where neither AOC nor DJT are seen as a leading light of movement.

I think there's a real danger of overestimating the importance of this sort of thing. There are always reactions to what's gone before - both Trump and Biden were elected on this type of reaction, and I suspect neither of them will serve second terms. Also, if Obama was eligible to have run in 2016 or 2020, I'm pretty sure he'd have won either election.

It's hard to imagine the two parties will offer us up the same two candidates again. Maybe the Libertarians or the Greens or whoever will win because no one else shows up to vote.
