Underrated Actor

JK Simmons - you know, the "Farmers Insurance - 'We know a thing or two because we've seen a thing or two.'" guy.
Yeah, he won an Oscar for "Whiplash" but he's done SO much interesting stuff that really shows how versatile an actor he is. I'd forgotten about his performance in "Whiplash" and just thought of him as the goofy insurance huckster in a vest.
Then, I came across a really intriguing show called "Counterpart." Premise is that there is a "parallel" world with a portal in Berlin. It's known by CIA and German police. He plays a meek analyst on "our" side, but a very ruthless, calculating CIA agent on the "other" side. I was taken with how he played the same "character" who is totally different.
Most recently, he appeared in "Defending Jacob," as a sick murderer who engineers an interesting twist to the defense of his grandson, who is also accused of murder (don't waste your time, by the way).
Great actor.
Much under appreciated.

All the other roles are footnotes to his one true role - J. Jonah Jameson Jr.
He is the man.
