New House bill filed in Florida lowering the threshold for death penalty, allowing execution with as few as 8 out of 12 jurors recommending the death sentence; this was done at DeSantis' behest.

To be fair, a study came out that revealed 4 out of 12 Florida residents cannot locate Florida on a map.

And there's no need to sort them.

It is a recommendation, not a determination of sentence. The judge may override that recommendation and impose life without parole, and a governor can still grant clemency. A judge may not override a recommendation of life and impose death.

This has been an ongoing development. It used to be that it took 10 of 12 jurors, then the Florida Supremes struck that down, requiring unanimous recommendation on at least one aggravating factor.

This effort to change the law came from frustration that the Parkland shooter, Nicholas Cruz, was spared the death penalty.
