I was reading recently about how widespread the opioid crisis has been, and I realized that four families I know have lost someone to it.

A guy from high school dead. Sister’s boyfriend’s son dead. Two friends with dead brothers.

    Am I unusual?

    Anyone else?

    Only non-witches get due process.

Similar to Covid, we have been lucky. No one remotely close has passed from it. Same with opioid.

Surprisingly, no. Most of the candidates I knew for overdose either did years ago or cleaned up. I only know one person lost to Covid.

No one dead, but a good friend I grew up with, two cousins and a godsister I also grew up with are all in perpetual jail over opioids. That's just what they do now. Been that way for decades.

Shit even my dad had some problems. He had a series of surgeries—some went okay, some not—and he stayed on the pills too long. Started to get serious side effects, so he checked himself into a rehab clinic. Apparently it was every bit the corner of hell you hear about. Really nasty living conditions, really nasty patients, really nasty staff, really nasty shit happening.

          Please love yourself.

Same experience as Mik. Mostly in their teens or 20s. It wasn’t so much opioids with my crowd, more like antics and stupidity with other drugs or mixing drugs. My son can rattle off a list of users, a few deaths and suicides from his school. He works at a crisis centre and says there’s no class or group untouched by this.

How many of you have naloxone kits? My kid (age 29) has one in his car. When I asked him about it he told me it’s for others & many of his colleagues carry one too.

                  No one, afaik.

Mrs. George has been in a pain clinic for, what 25 years now. She gets her opioids filled regularly. For the last year or two, she's been given a naloxone nasal spray as well.

Our previous next door neighbour died. Two work colleagues have lost children, one lost his brother. Thankfully nobody in my own family.

                    I was only joking

During the 60s and early 70s suicide by heroin was popular, I knew a couple. Heroin killed a few high school students in our neighborhood 15 years ago.

I don't think I know anyone who has had any involvement with opioids.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman's death hit me very hard.

In my case I was unaware of any usage until the death of the person involved. Though their families probably knew.

I have 2 cousins dead from overdose, one second cousin in jail for dealing heroin, and most of that side of the family is hooked.
