Ax, I think this is a front conflict between many parents and what they see as a systematic push towards a culture they don't agree with.
As a single book, it doesn't matter much. I'm sure there are other books in a typical library that they wouldn't want their young kids reading - but the book symbolizing the push to change culture that they don't agree with.

For sure. Honestly, you go to any library these days and in the kids section there are displays of featured books, many times covering LGBTQ topics. It's pretty jarring...in a section about unicorns, and dinosaurs, and the color green, you have books prominently displayed about "my two dads" or "queer pride". Again, we're talking about the children's section of the library. My daughter who's 4 thinks she's a unicorn during the day, and Princess Belle at night. I'd rather her not pick out books about how Susie thinks she's really a boy because of cultural associations with what boys traditionally like.

@89th On the shelf space part - it annoys me because I do want someone thoughtful to recommend good children’s books to me. Instead, they’re opting to display books that push a political message.
Same thing in kids bookstores. I just do my own research and don’t go. Which is kinda sad. I love putzing around books.

Agreed, and you summed it up well. Honestly, I don't really care about certain books being in the library or not. Let's be honest, the kids also have the internet. It's the pushing of the message, or an overcorrection if you will.

I'll help you.
In print for over 50 years, it's a good read-aloud book...

Here's what y'all are overlooking...A large portion of the LGBQTXRYZ community desperately needs their perversion to be considered normal, from something as common as a lesbian relationship to a transgendered BDSM threesome.
To do that, they must get to kids early. To define a child's perception of abnormal into normal, to make deviancy seem like just those people down the street who dress a little weird.
They need these books in the library. They have to have them on the shelfs, beckoning to be read by little minds of mush.
I think it far and away the greatest push to normalize child abuse in my lifetime.

Just curious.
What if there were a book with photographs of men having oral sex with other men (I suspect they do exist). Or a book with photographs of men having vaginal sex with women. Or a women performing cunnilingus on each other.
What if Lady Chatterly's Lover were illustrated in a very graphic way?
Should those books be banned? If so, why? If not, why not?

Thank you, Jolly. I just bought it. I haven't read this one - the reviews are glowing.

I think the discussion would have to be about public money being spent, that amounts to public support or endorsement.
If you want porn in your house or in your bookstore, I don't care very much.
If you want my money to pay for porn made available to 6-year-olds in the library or school, I'll care a little more.
There should be community standards.
And they should be enforced by the community. And not all communities are the same.
