    1. Aretha Franklin
    2. Whitney Houston
    3. Sam Cooke
    4. Billie Holiday
    5. Mariah Carey
    6. Ray Charles
    7. Stevie Wonder
    8. Beyoncé
    9. Otis Redding
    10. Al Green
    11. Little Richard
    12. John Lennon
    13. Patsy Cline
    14. Freddie Mercury
    15. Bob Dylan
    16. Prince
    17. Elvis Presley
    18. Celia Cruz
    19. Frank Sinatra

Mariah Carey is #5 and Sinatra doesn't make the top 10?

Ella Fitzgerald doesn't make the top TWENTY. She's #45.

Just another reason to hate Rolling Stone.

I can't discount the brilliance of Lennon and Dylan.

        But as singers? GMAFB.

Ahem, only 5 in the top 20 were white men.

And that's counting Freddy Mercury who's African.

I love that Sam Cooke was #3. Love his singing.

Ray Charles below Mariah Carey??? Feh.

                            Two random comments.

                            1. As someone born in the early 80s, my first exposure to Elvis was John Stamos 's character on Full House being obsessed with and impersonating Elvis. So to me, Elvis was an overly dramatic stage-y type singer. Whereas now I'll hear a song by Elvis and think.... wow, what a smooth voice at times. So my comment is, I wonder what it would've been like to first hear Elvis music come over the airways and how different it must've been for listeners.

                            2. Years ago I had a debate with a friend that I thought a singer like Ray Charles was better than someone like Brian McKnight (really good R&B). Sure, Brian sings "better" but I always felt Ray's emotion more in his singing.
