The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

      That’s so rude.

If she’s walking because of Irulan, then I don’t think these guys understood the characters at all.

I got the distinct impression that's what it was.

Paul goes into this "I'll always love you" speech, and within 1 minute, turns to the Emperor and says "I marry Irulan or you die." Chani storms out, and summons Shai-Hulud.

              Jesus Muad' Dib.

As I mentioned, there are some real liberties taken with the story. Because it's such massive work, I understand the need to be selective about what's shown.

But I don't understand some of the stuff, like not putting Fred's poison into the duel.

On the other hand, if I hadn't read the book, I would have thought this was a really great tale, well-told. That thought crossed my mind several times during the movie.

Meh, not so sure. Finally watched Dune 2 with Karla and Lucas and they were confused as hell.

I suppose, having read the book several times, I can get that. You can't erase what you already know.

What did they find confusing, the "Water of Life", Jessica's transformation?

Really some basic points. But once per ple started having visions and hearing ancestral voices, it started jumping around too fast. It wasn’t coming through to them that Paul was seeing a greater danger, requiring him to take on dreaded mantle.

They also were pissed about the Chani thing, as she was the one that finally pushed Paul to go and told him they would still be together, but then got pissy the moment Paul started doing what was needed.

Karla also wasn’t getting why Paul didn’t just kill the Emperor.

I started 2 this week. Like Foundation, loosely based on the book. I do think Dune has stayed truer to the book themes than Foundation. All in all good entertainment.

                      https://deadline.com/2024/10/denis-villeneuve-dune-3-plans-1236119697/

Denis Villeneuve says that his “break” is over and that he will ”go back behind the camera faster than I think” to film the third instalment of his “deep” immersion into Frank Herbert’s Dune universe.

“I’m in the writing zone right now,” the filmmaker says, referring to Dune: Messiah, though he was careful not to call it Dune: Part Three.

Villeneuve insists that Dune: Part One and Part Two are ”for me like one entity. It’s a movie made in two parts. It’s finished, it’s done.”

The Canadian-French director says that he could have stopped at Dune: Part Two, “but yes, like Herbert did with Dune: Messiah, I think it’ll be a great idea to do something completely different. The story takes place like 12 years after where we left the characters at the end of Part Two. Their journey, their story is different this time, and that’s why I always say that while it’s the same world it’s a new film with new circumstances.”

That new movie, he continues “will finish the Paul Atreides arc.”
