Honestly, I would probably do the same thing. Probably not video the crime, but I doubt I would intervene.

There would be a lot more bad things that could happen than good thing in that situation, at least for me.

I would think that behavior passes shoplifting and constitutes robbery. Perhaps some robbery charges and sentences might slow the trend.
