IN Taiwan, if you take your driving test on a "stick", it is indicated on your license and you can legally drive one on the road. If you take your license in a automatic, you can only legally drive a automatic.

(and yes, I did learn on a "stick")

              Consider this a poll,
              with three questions:

              1. Were you ever competent at driving a stick shift?
              2. If so, when was the last time you drove a stick shift?
              3. Do you believe you can still competently drive a stick shift today?

              My answers:

              1. Yes, I was pretty good at it too.
              2. Probably more than 15 years ago
              3. Yes, I think ... feels a lot like riding a bicycle, I believe I can drive a stick shift competently again with very little practice

                        Yes.

In 1980 when I rented a U-Haul to move from our apartment to our first house.

Probably not, and I'm not curious to find out.

Funny, I first learned with the shift on the left. It was a golf course maintenance vehicle. The only time I've driven one in a car was at my brother in law's house where he had an old truck (he called it the chicken truck because he used it to haul chickens) which he needed me to move a few miles down the road.

My first car was a Pontiac sunbird manual transmission. Haven’t driven a manual since.

In the early 90s while on an expat gig in London I was given a corporate car to use which had the stick on my left.

It took some getting used to.

Fortunately, they do not change the pedals. What I dont like is sometimes the window wiper and the turn signal controls are switched. Then I always either turn the signal on when I want to clean the windows on, or clean the window when I want to signal!! LOL
