Thailand: Many children among dead in pre-school attack

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-63155169

An ex-policeman has killed at least 38 people, most of them children, in a gun and knife attack at a pre-school daycare centre in north-east Thailand.

Police say he then killed himself and his family after a manhunt following the attack in Nong Bua Lamphu province.
    ...

    A pre-school.
    WTF.

Lord have mercy on the victims, and give consolation to the families.

      Utter horror.

What a nightmare. We really are not meant to absorb so much news, including tragedies, from across the world.

Or even here. What happened in Thailand is horror beyond imagining . . . but what could we have done to prevent it? What can we do now to make it better?

This is not meant to sound as coldhearted as it will, but if there is nothing I can do to prevent it or ameliorate it, what is the point of burdening my mind and my soul with news of it?

I have always believed that the news being available to watch does not obligate me to watch it.

I honor and respect the spirituality of people like IT, who believe in the power of transmitted compassion and love. But for me and others like me, there is no profit in it for anybody.

Success is measured by your discipline and inner peace. – Mike Ditka

Yup pretty much. I stopped watching the news a few years ago, except for occasionally looking at CNBC or local news website headlines, maybe 20 seconds per day. Perhaps it aligns with my lack of free time now that I have little kids, but I think it's better for me to not be aware of every negative story out there anyway. But, like a car wreck, I very much understand how it's human nature to be intrigued by news stories (and some people constantly consume it).

We don’t have appropriate wiring to interpret the world as a collection of newsworthy anecdotes that trigger our safety and security impulses. But that’s how we absorb the world anymore and that’s why narratives and the cherry picked anecdotes that support them, are so powerful.

              Education is extremely important.
