Awkward....
Robert Byrd served as Minority Leader from 1981-1987, and Majority Leader from 1987-1989.

As a young man, Mr. Byrd was an “exalted cyclops” of the Ku Klux Klan. Although he apologized numerous times for what he considered a youthful indiscretion, his early votes in Congress — notably a filibuster against the 1964 Civil Rights Act — reflected racially separatist views.
Ah, he apologized.
That makes it all better.
("Racially separatist" ≠ "Racist," presumably)

This is goofy on Speaker Pelosi part. If it is all of a sudden important only now, then it is hard to say it is really important to her.
Politicians. LOL

Good point (as usual).
If it's important, why didn't she notice beforehand? You'd think that after almost half a century in Congress, she'd be aware of it.
I see two possibilities:
- She didn't know (IOW, she was ignorant)
- She didn't care (IOW, she's pandering)
I'm sure there are others...but I'm to lazy to think of them.

@taiwan_girl Agreed. To repeat you and @George-K , was this not offensive to her before? One of my biggest gripes with this latest woke trend is...well, I haven't changed my position on anything. If anything, I've learned how false the narrative is behind BLM. Nonetheless, one of my biggest grips are folks who are now "learning... listening... supporting..." so in my mind they are only now catching up to where most people (or I can only speak for myself) have already been.

Everyone spots the cheese.
Some people spot the trap.
(no, I didn't make that up, but I like it)
