That is really, really disappointing. As I'm sure others have, I've been to that section of the cemetery. Yes the cemetery was first created for US (union) soldiers, but eventually did include confederate graves. At first the cemetery didn't even allow flowers to be added to confederate graves, but eventually (around the turn of the century) they (congress/president) decided it was the right thing to do to honor "American valor" by creating a section for confederate soldiers buried on the land already. So the section, and the memorial in the middle, are a long-established piece of history. The idea that we should remove historical markers that are offensive to some is, IMO, very selfish and short-sighted. And yes, a very slippery slope (or rather, we're already on the slope, and this is just another gate we're going through).
