The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

What a perfect opportunity to ascribe whatever importance to those meetings that one wants to.

If there was no importance, they wouldn't have them.

They could easily be vestigial. Why make a public display of ending the tradition? To whose benefit would that be?

      Education is extremely important.

I'd guess the value and influence varied, depending on the particular Prime Minister, but you'd have to be a right clot not to at least listen to somebody with that level of experience.

In other contexts, for instance with senators or judges, most people seem to think the cons of long experience begin to outweigh the pros.

Yeah, but your country is only like 40 years old. We understand the value of decrepitude.

So England is kind of like a rudderless ship right now… Would make a great opportunity for a former colony to invade and put a true democracy in place…

You'd never make it past all the roundabouts. Years from now, they'd find Americans driving around in circles shouting 'SARGE, SARGE, I CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHERE TO GO!!!', much like those Japanese soldiers found in the jungle years after the end of WW2.

It was completely in jest, and I don’t support 100% democracy.

I’m real sad. I had much respect for Queen Elizabeth II.
I’ll be watching the news this week, the funeral too.

                          I’m not fond of Charles.

Flags are half mast in many small towns in Central Alberta. Schools, stores, private homes, everywhere. On pump jacks, pad sites, petrochemical plants, all that.. I wonder if RCMP are wearing black arm bands?

Kinda odd, but the upside down freedom flag crowd seem to have taken down their flags for now. None today from where I’m at.

I’m hoping Canada will get a new National Holiday. QEII was special imo.

I just heard the funniest exchange ever. I mean I know it was part of the job, but just the same, Her Majesty was very witty.

"I've always kept a diary. Well not a diary exactly—certainly not like Queen Victoria's—but every day I do write, and—"
"But it is in your own hand? Because I think that's terribly important."
"Well there's no other way I know how to write, John, of course it was in my own hand!"

                            Just excellent.

                            Please love yourself.

As he's named 'Charles Philip Arthur George', I'm a little disappointed that he didn't go with the name 'Arthur'. There'd be a big debate whether he should be Arthur I, or Arthur II.

I reckon HerM had some illness other than old age & infirmity, probably diagnosed last year when she went to hospital for a couple of days. Didn't seem to be a cancer death so I'm guessing organ failure at her age. It'll come out eventually, along with Philip's philanderings, her initial rejection of Camilla as unacceptible which led to the whole Diana thing, and other bits of muck swept under the red carpet, if any of it is true. Public love that stuff.

For me, She was an amazing person over the decades, tolerant and phlegmatic, serene in an ever more volatile world. Never even met her yet was tearing up like my own mother had died when Huw Edwards annouced it.

It's been three days, and the world still feels weird and alternate-universey.
