For 3 days the story was a a Kindergarten Teacher and mother of two was abducted while jogging at 4 AM (why is any young woman jogging at 4 AM?).

Now it comes out that she’s an heiress to a billionaire? After 3 days? This changes the whole freaking story…

I guess it might change the narrative IF the individual involved knew of that, had cased her route and planned to ask for a ransom. Most folks seem to think that it was a crime of opportunity. It has to be triggering for folks who have gone through things like that. On the runner sites, women are talking about the protection they do or do not carry. I've had women friends attacked while running. One of them was one of the fastest people in the country - but the guy tackled her from the side. She managed to get away from him - and then there was no chance of his catching her.

They found a body about 7 miles from where she was abducted. They are working to identify it.

Yes. They found his cleaning out his car with chemicals. Not a good sign.

I wonder if someday our culture looks at people like this man a little differently. We're going to spend millions of dollars to care for him over the next 30 or more years - money that could be spent in a lot of different ways - from providing needed medical care to improving education for kids to helping a multi-millionaire purchase a helicopter pad for his/her yacht - all of which seem preferable.

Give the man a fair trial with adequate representation, and if convicted, let him appeal.

                    Then hang him.

The accused served 20 years for kidnapping and robbing an attorney in 1999-2000. I can’t help but wonder if there is more to this.

Still, WTF is a young woman doing jogging at 4AM?

I used to run at that time. For a teacher, it was probably ideal to be able to get some miles in, clean up and then head to work. She had two children of her own in addition to teaching so probably the only time she could get out.

Actually, at another point in my life, I used to go for runs at 11:30 at night along the Chicago lakefront. Want to know who runs at midnight on the lakefront - women!

Actually, even running at normal times, the vast majority of people running on our city's lakefront are women. I bet it is 80% of the runners.

Tucker just explained that your question is part of the problem.

We have gotten used to the idea that criminals control "bad" parts of the city and good people aren't allowed to go there.

And the bad part of town has now grown to include just about every large and small city in the country.
