Under today’s rules a person can be taken down for something they said twenty years ago, yet if they said things their entire life and suddenly said one thing that appealed to the convenience of a tribe they are lionized.
This is the party of the “intellectuals”.
It's just people being people. The idea that Republicans and Democrats are somehow fundamentally different is very quaint and all, and I'm sure it makes both groups feel better about themselves at 4 o'clock in the morning when they awaken screaming at the void that was once their soul, but they're just people.
Uh, no. And I mean that.
As a very general rule, the Dem 's belief system is based much more on "feelings". Not to say the Far Right doesn't generate its share of wackos, but I think you'll find a little more thought and a tad more logic in Republicans and many Independents.

It should be expected that people will self-select into their political affiliation based on real differences. If real differences exist, no matter how minor, the split between the platforms of the two parties will gravitate towards those differences. The left being the side for movement and change, requires more social persuasion than the right, and that persuasion ends up being various shades of outright coercion rather than mere persuasion. I.e. enforced group-think, which we've been seeing all around us. Always using the good vs evil framing of every issue, with the understanding that evil people won't have an easy time of it in this life, socially or economically.

Much of that alleged black and white thinking is imposed on others unfairly. Many of us have difficulty distinguishing voting for the other side, from agreeing with everything and everybody on that side. Again that comes back to which sides requires more coerced group-think to keep itself coherent, and I think that's the left.

The reason they stood Biden up is because he wants to go down in history as a president, and being aware that he's not capable of it, he will be more than happy to do photo ops and regurgitate what he's told to say and let those running the party make the decisions.

@jon-nyc I agree with you. I never like John Bolton, and did not like his attitude, his policies, and how he handled things. But, I do think he probably is telling most of the truth in what he re-says in teh book.
Does that not worry anybody that the US president is like this?

Pay very close attention to who Biden picks as his running mate. If Biden is elected, the VP will become the first unelected President since Ford.

Oh Bolton is a spurned lover. I don’t believe he has the capacity to understand things and will seek to interpret everything in a particular way. I’ve seen it too often.
His ego has been shattered to the point where he can’t even see that he is systematically destroying himself. The deconstruction of self is tragic.
Money won’t help and if he ever figures out how he is being used by people he despises, well I wouldn’t want to be there for that.
