We used to use you chaps to man the front lines. Well, when I say 'man', you used to wear skirts. There are fewer things more horrifying to a conservative, music loving race such as the Germans than a red-headed transvestite playing the bagpipes.

You could have gotten rid of almost everything between "to" and "bagpipes."
To wit: There are fewer things more horrifying (than) bagpipes.

I recall seeing a movie, a British comedy, back in the early ‘90s in which a piper was playing Rod Stewart’s hit, Do You Think I’m Sexy, on bagpipes at a wedding reception. It was brilliant.
Can’t recall the name of the movie. I know though it was not 4 Weddings and a Funeral.
