Coyote's in the house

We had a massive thunderstorm this afternoon, which rudely awakened me from my 5 o'clock nap. I came down and sit in the lounge, and saw this very large coyote just walk straight down the road outside the house as bold as brass, and into the woods at the end of our drive. He was about the size of a decent sized German shepherd.
Sadly, he wasn't carrying an anvil.
I love this about the US - where I grew up in England we considered squirrels to be exotic wild animals.
I guess this answers the question regarding what happened to all the bunny rabbits from earlier in the year.

It's a bit of a worry - but we've got a pretty decent fence.
We used to hear them howling around an abandoned mental hospital that was just outside the town - more than a little disturbing. They've since converted the place to apartments. "Loony bin conversion" doesn't have quite the cache of 'barn conversion', but it's a similar idea. Anyway, the coyotes apparently didn't like the attention.

Coyotes are at least more interesting than woodchucks. We had one of those this summer. It was entirely too brave, and even attempted to come up the steps to the front porch while I was out there one afternoon. Yes, during the day this happened. We got an extra large trap, set it up where he liked to roam, and have not seen him since. The trap is still there, in case he reappears.

We used to have a little guy in the bushes by the house. He'd sit there quite happily on his back legs and eat the wild raspberries. The kids wanted to adopt him.

We live on the edge of a Nature Preserve that goose about a mile down to the Potomac and is about 4 miles wide. We have a large number of Eastern Coyotes down there. It was so bad a few years ago that I couldn’t take the dogs for a walk past 7 PM. There is a hill in on the edge of the neighborhood where they would gather…
It’s been better the last 2 years but we still hear them occasionally. Haven’t seen them, though. Our new excitement revolves around a young black bear that’s been spotted a couple of times now…

For those of you not in the east, we have Eastern coyotes which have both wok and coyote lineage and are much larger than normal western coyotes.
Like a large German shepherd as he describes. They also roam more than the western type.
Here’s a picture from wiki.

I searched art showing a coyote using a wok because I thought it would be interesting, but couldn't find any. Surprisingly.
Yes, there is something sly about coyotes. Like a mean kid who won't engage with you, but will stuff your kid sister's doll into the downspout.

We have had a black bear and her cub being spotted around the rivertowns recently, not 18mi from the Bronx city limits.
The bike trail I’m on every day is usually where they see her. Last report had the mom limping.

In my neck of the woods we have mostly been spotting deers and the occasional rabbits as far as wild life goes. :man-shrugging:

I see lots of deer, lizards, and liberals. I call animal control on the liberals but they do nothing. #DefundAnimalControl

Coyotes everywhere here in the city. Increasing numbers of coydogs as well especially in parks and grazing reserves within a half hour drive of the city.
In outer rural areas there also increasing reports of coywolves.

Folks, Eastern Coyotes do not have wok heritage, though there may be a few stir-fry restaurants that have tried...

It makes you wonder though, did the Wolf do the Coyote or did the Coyote do the Wolf?
