Do you have a place in Texas lined up? Will the timing work for getting out/getting in? Every time we moved, that was a major PITA.

Thanks George. It will be a PITA for us too. With our two big dogs. Our place in Texas is under contract, but not completed yet. The amount of money at risk isn't a big deal. If we close soon, we'll move to an AirBnB and continue shopping for homes. If we see something we like, we'll negotiate with the builder of the current place. They think they will be done by November, but that could easily change. The electricity to the development is not hooked up yet, and that is out of their control.

I was in Katy earlier this year. Far enough away from Houston so that you're away from Houston, but close enough so that you can still get there if you really have to.

The Buc'ees gas station in Katy has 120 pumps. The place is nuts. The chairman of the committee I was on lives near there, and he just raved about it.

I spent a few months in Houston in 1999. Believe it or not, I was consulting for Haliburton while Cheney was CEO.
I never met him, but my boss updated him monthly.

Good luck on the house sale. My worst was the house before the one we're in. It was a large Victorian - 11 bedrooms, 6 baths, corner lot in George's town. I actually got to sell it 3 times - each of the non-starter sales took it off the market for a time. I got to spend 18 months living with my ex-wife - glad there were 11 bedrooms and all - but even nicer to escape.

The only other hurdle is the loan contingency, but the buyer is paying 60% down so the loan is not huge. Time to start looking at movers. We'll stay at an Airbnb for a month or three, and see where we end up. I need to get a PO box in that area. Should have done that when we visited last time. I am going to attempt to hold my mail, go to Texas, Get a PO box, change my address, release my mail. Let's see how that works. Should probably go flawlessly.
