Hey Phibes! Whaddya think about a Truss?

Seen on twitter:
"My son has lived through four chancellors, three home secretaries, two prime ministers and two monarchs.
He's four months old."
Brexit’s going well. I remember them telling us how it would let Britain fully govern itself at last.
Should have stuck with the Germans.

U.K. Prime Minister Liz Truss Resigns After Six Weeks
U.K. Prime Minister Liz Truss said she would resign, after a risky plan to cut taxes and boost spending caused turmoil on financial markets, forcing her to backtrack and her political authority to disintegrate.
The 47-year-old will become the shortest-serving prime minister in British history and the third Conservative Party leader pushed out of office in as many years. Ms. Truss said that a leadership election would be held within the next week to find her replacement.
“I recognize that given the situation, I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative Party,” she said standing outside Downing Street on Thursday.
The resignation comes months after rebel lawmakers forced outBoris Johnson as prime minister following a series of scandals.
Ms. Truss’s successor must now navigate a political crisis and economic turbulence, with Britain dealing with stagflation—the combination of slow growth and high inflation. The new leader is almost sure to face a long winter of discontent, with real wages forecast to fall, labor unions promising a series of strikes and many voters demanding elections.

LOL. And they say the US is dysfunctional.
She's been PM for, what, 10 days?
I may be wrong, but even Jeffrey Epstein lasted longer than that.

They really ought to call a general election now, and let the people vote to decide the leader of the country, rather than a very small group of Tories.
Obviously, that would lead the Conservatives trying to find a leader who can win an election, which might be a bit of a struggle.

This is pretty much David Cameron's fault.
Of course, he's off somewhere raking in the money for doing sweet FA.
Governing by referendum is a really bad idea.

I think you are right.
As far as I’m concerned referenda have no place in Parliamentary governance.

In Cameron's case it was him trying to placate the right wing of the party in case they defected to UKIP. He should have told them to FOAD.

Over lunch, somebody said to me that this instability is the big disadvantage of parliamentary systems.
I felt obliged to point out that they get to keep really shitty leaders for at least 4 years, and somehow this is an improvement?

Well, at least you know what you'll have for four years as opposed to a surprise
whenever they feel like itevery so often.
