All Marine planes were shot down, casualties mounted, the situation was becoming desperate. However, communications were still maintained with Pearl Harbor. A relief expedition was mounted but the remnants of the Navy were so pitifully weak that the mission was canceled at the last minute.
Finally, Pearl Harbor queried Wake “Is there anything that we can provide?”
In one of the last messages from the doomed island came back:
“Send us more Japs!”
This is the right approach.

What’s funny about it, I mean in particular?
While I understand the point of the political gesture, and I personally would support rejiggering our immigration priorities towards economic contributors, I can’t imagine looking at this and not seeing it as cynically fucking with very vulnerable people and treating them as pawns in a fight they don’t have a dog in.

The image of them luring the migrants to the plane… “We have a surprise for you! Just come to the plane!” Struck me as darkly humorous. I sincerely doubt that it happened like the lady said, but whatever… That’s the same way they’ve been lured to the US to begin with…

A person can make a compelling case that dropping unsuspecting migrants off in places like Chicago or San Francisco is cruel, but Martha’s Vineyard? Isn’t it more humane to send migrants to well-heeled communities than to allow them to live in “squalor” in makeshift tent cities under highway overpasses? Because I rarely hear the left worry about the latter.
Then again, why has a story about 50 migrants spending a couple of days on Martha’s Vineyard garnered far more coverage and outrage from the media and left punditry than 51 migrants being cooked alive in a tractor-trailer only last month?
Why is it barely news that officials dumped 1,000 migrants into the streets of El Paso to fend for themselves the very same day those 50 people arrived in beautiful Martha’s Vineyard? Is it humane that some Texas cities see 200,000 newcomers every month or that places like Del Rio, Texas, with a population of nearly 35,000, are forced to house nearly 50,000 newcomers in “squalid conditions” when pristine sanctuary cities are asked to do nothing?

Odd. El Paso is a border town. Actually it and Ciudad Juarez are basically one conurbation. What does it even mean that the feds are “dumping” them there? They probably walk out of the processing center with their own two feet.
Seems a bit different than flying them to Martha’s Vineyard under false pretenses as an explicitly political gesture.

Let’s also not forget that Martha’s Vineyard declared as a Sanctuary Destination during the Trump years. They promised safe housing and employment opportunities to any migrants that arrived on their island. If the people in Florida told them they would have housing and jobs in the Vineyard when they arrived, it’s only because that is what the island promised. So who was cruelly lying again?

Or Scranton, or Allentown.. And some of the planes landed in Jacksonville, FL.
