Mayor Adams calls out Texas and Arizona for sending asylum seekers to city, flooding NYC shelters
Mayor Adams called on the federal government Tuesday to send money to New York City to accommodate hundreds of foreign asylum seekers who’ve recently come here seeking refuge — many of them, according to Adams, at the direction of states like Texas and Arizona.
The mayor’s demand comes as the city struggles to reign in homelessness and as its shelter system continues to buckle under that burden. As of Monday, 48,188 people were staying in city shelters, according to data from the Department of Homeless Services.
“We need not only the federal government, we need some of those states that have been giving people one-way tickets — we need them to understand that this must be a partnership in this country to deal with those who are coming here seeking refuge,” he said.
Adams, who fielded questions about the issue during a press conference about a new volunteer homeless outreach initiative, said he wasn’t entirely certain of what methods other states are using to refer asylum seekers to the Big Apple. But he noted that, based on interviews with them, city workers have gleaned what states they’re coming from and that they’ve been advised that New York City has a right to shelter law guaranteeing shelter to anyone within the five boroughs.

If the left happened to be against illegal immigration, how easy would it be to fashion scary narratives around needing health care resources but not finding them because the illegals were hogging everything?
I’m old enough to remember when it was ok to let unvaccinated covid sufferers get to the back of the line for health care, in favor of the vaccinated who need help.

I don't know about "okay," but if (1) resources were very limited, (2) vaccines were readily available, and (3) an unvaccinated person would take up resources that might alter the outcome of more than one patient at a time, then, yeah, maybe that'd be a smart move. I realize the woke narrative is "fuck 'em," but from a pragmatic standpoint, under those conditions, it also makes a kind of sense.

I more mind the other way where illegals might be impacting the availability of resources paid for by taxpayers. I think that’s something almost everybody would mind, if their narratives taught them to mind.

Yeah, that's definitely a thing.

I have stated before that I am against illegal immigration, but if you think vegetable and fruit prices are high in the US right now, get rid of all the illegal workers and see how high they will really go.

It's not the problem you think. The answer goes back to WW2...

Bowser requests National Guard help for asylum seekers in DC
D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser is asking the Department of Defense to provide D.C. National Guard help with what she called a “growing humanitarian crisis” of asylum seekers who are being sent to the District from Arizona and Texas.
She is also asking the federal government to be involved to deal with the situation that she expects to escalate further.
Christopher Rodriguez, director of the Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency, wrote on behalf of Bowser to the Office of the Secretary of Defense, asking for 150 D.C. National Guard personnel per day to assist the lead NGO with staffing.
He also asked for National Guard transportation assets to shuttle migrants “to a temporary processing center at the D.C. Armory or another suitable federal location in the National Capital Region such as Joint Base Bolling or Fort McNair for reception and eventual onward movement to their final destinations.”...

In all fairness, most of them make their way here eventually…

"What's the difference between this administration flying migrants to distant states in the middle of the night and bussing them to Washington and New York City?"
KJP: "The difference is that this administration is not using them as political pawns.'
And...she said it with a straight face. Deserves an Oscar.
