So my doc put me on doxycycline. I just noticed that it says not to take with antacids. I take Famotodine pretty regularly, but even though it’s marketed as an antacid, it’s really a histamine blocker. I looked online and saw where Rolaids, Tums, etc... will cause the antibiotic to be less effective, but I can’t find anything about Famotodine. Any idea?

Rolaids and Tums are primarily calcium.

Is this in connection with the tick? Have you heard back on what kind of tick it is?

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

@George-K so Famotodine should be fine? It’s bad enough that I can’t have beer or whisky for the next 2 weeks. Add stomach issues and it will be a bad time.

@Catseye3 I’m not really concerned about whether the tick carried Lyme. It was only likely attached for 12 hours at most, and even if it turns out the tick was carrying Lyme and did manage to transfer it, the antibiotic given for the skin infection treats Lyme.

H2 blockers increase gastric pH and reduce the bioavailability of doxycycline because of reduced absorption. Same hold true of PPIs, and also the calcium carbonate or aluminum hydroxide antacids (tums, maalox) which neutralize gastric acid.
