    A slight derail:

It’s amazing to me that we are talking about cars that are 8 to 12 years old.

My parents used to buy a new car every 4 to 5 years.

I commented earlier, in a Top Gear episode how Jeremy Clarkson said that one of the greatest things about today’s automobiles is how totally reliable they are.

My 2005 S500 just turned over 200k on the odometer.

I will have it ten years this December.

Was thinking about selling it but decided that I am just going to keep fixing it when it needs something.

Latest repair is a vacuum pump for the central locking system.

New pump from Mercedes is about $1k.

Found one on eBay for $167.00.

I still have yet to find a car that rides as nice as this car.

I paid $14k for it. Over 10 years I added around $4k in repairs not including tires. Went through 3 sets of tires.

So grand total of about $20k for a freaking S-500 4Matic and 10 years, 100k miles of service and still going strong.

Most new cars depreciate that much in 4 years or less.

I don' think I will replace this one until I can afford a 2026 EQS in 2032 or so. lol

Mazda 6 is a good car. Go for it. Friend had one. Wife had Mazda 3.

I’ve become a fan of Hondas since I bought one in 2016 btw… but would suggest staying away from Fords. Loved my 2008 Fusion but it (and other Ford owners) eventually found various sized maintenance issues to deal with.

BMWs are indeed "fun to drive" cars. Very direct contact to the road. Very direct steering.

I got a Mazda last year (CX-5) and am very happy with it, except the mileage in my turbo model sucks. But 250 horses, so…

Buy a MOPAR today and you will have a similar result. They start nickel and diming you around 60K.

But I echo George's take. You do not want Luke's first car to be a BMW. A nice Japanese hatchback to haul stuff to and from college would be great.

It’s over… The Mazda 6 Touring is the winner. 6 cylinder, 6 speed sport transmission, backup camera and blind spot sensors, and a clean bill of health from our mechanic. With appropriate maintenance it should have another 150K miles left…

It'll be a good car for you guys.

I had a Mazda 626 for a while. It was a good car. The coolest thing about it was that the center heat/ac vents oscillated back and forth.

@jon-nyc 2011 with 140K miles. The miles were a bit high but the mechanic gave it his blessing. The price is right, so…

Surprisingly, it was a real dealership. But the Carfax is clean, the car has been checked up and down (I even had a guy check for engine codes that were cleared over the past year), and the Mazda dealer we bought it at has handled the service on the car for 7 years. I really figured we were going to have to buy private market at the price point we were at in this market.

Nice car, good car, good looking car. We have Lauren’s old 2010 Camry as our second car. 145k, runs like new. It was MFR’s company car that we bought out. Expect it will be a second car as long as we need one. We don’t put 1,000 miles a year on it.

Very nice. Should last a long time and be maintenance/trouble free.

I've always had a fondness for Mazdas. They're just different enough from Toyotas and Hondas to make them interesting.

ETA: Might wanna blur out the license plate, because I'm paranoid.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.
