Stick a fork in them

The mentally ill used to get treatment and now they just send cops.
Maybe there’s hope - a germ of agreement between this guy and the defund crowd.

I don't quite think that is what he means. In the current mental health world, inpatient beds are at a premium. Lots of times, people need to be in a mental health facility, but because of inability to pay, lack of beds or the inability to PEC the person, they get treated and streeted or get no treatment at all.
Then they go off the rails, and the cops have to be called.

I’m generally pro law enforcement, but I am calling bs on a lot of that post.

Would you have your oldest be a cop?

I have a family member who has been a police officer for 15 years but is ending his career this year. Switching to nursing. They said the last few years have been exhausting...serving the community, seeing the scum of society, and dealing with the incessant criticisms day in and day out. Sucks...

They're done.
If that’s what he wanted... But moving along from the article:
“There was a respect among all….even the kids in shop class.”
Even the kids in shop class? Ok, this was either a poor attempt at humor that fell flat (and nothing in this post was humorous) or he’s demonstrating a bias against certain kids.
“ 27 years has passed” Okay, now we have a timeline. 1993. This officer is a contemporary of mine. And that paints this section as bullshit...“ The mentally ill used to get treatment and now they just send cops. Kids used to be taught respect and now it’s cool to be disrespectful.
Supervisors used to back you when you were right but now they accuse you of being wrong in order to appease crazy people.
Parents used to get mad at their kids for getting arrested and now they get mad at us.
The media used to highlight the positive contribution our profession gave to society and now they either ignore it or twist the truth for controversy to line their own pockets.
THE STACY ETTEL STORY
There used to be a common respect among criminals. If they got caught, they understood you had a job to do but now it’s our fault they sit in handcuffs rather than their own personal decisions.”All bullshit. That crap was going on 30 years ago. Hell, that crap was going on before his father started wearing a shield 50 years ago.
“ We used to be able to testify in court and we were believed. Now, unless there is video from three different angles, no one cares what you have to say.” Because police never lie and need to be trusted... Except all the times that we’ve seen the opposite. Thank God the policeman’s word is no longer taken for gospel

@LuFins-Dad I agree with what you are writing. People have a tendency (me included) to use the "rose glasses" to look at the past.

What people need to realize is that the past was filled with normal people just like the present. If any of our virtuous folk of today would like to know how they would have thought and acted in any given historical culture, they only need to learn how an average person thought and felt, in that culture at that time.
