Overreactions abound.
And employer recently sent me an email about their stance against racism. Just like HBO, what has changed between a month ago and now that suddenly requires these displays of commitment. Even from friends. My position on racism hasn’t changed, and I feel no need to publicly declare it now.

A spokesperson for HBO Max, which like CNN is owned by WarnerMedia, told CNN Business that “Gone with the Wind” is “a product of its time and depicts some of the ethnic and racial prejudices that have, unfortunately, been commonplace in American society.”
“These racist depictions were wrong then and are wrong today, and we felt that to keep this title up without an explanation and a denouncement of those depictions would be irresponsible,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson added that when the film returns to HBO Max, it “will return with a discussion of its historical context and a denouncement of those very depictions,” and will be presented “as it was originally created, because to do otherwise would be the same as claiming these prejudices never existed.”
“If we are to create a more just, equitable and inclusive future, we must first acknowledge and understand our history,” the spokesperson said.

They don't want to understand history, they want to blackwash it.

The effect of the nitrogen content on the ignition characteristics of nitrocellulose (NC) is investigatedusing thin films ranging in nitrogen content from 11.40%to 13.88%. Both the ignition energies and the condensed phase reactions are measured and analyzed. The ignition energy (E) measured in an arc image furnace at constant pressure, using samples coated with carbon is found to be 0.4 cal cm−2 for all 10 micron thick specimens, regardless of both the nitrogen content and the radiant flux density. These days, anybody committed enough to counter-culture causes that they'd drop everything to devote their lives to fight the system, have convenient mobs they can join instead. They don't have to risk anything, and they even gain social credibility among their friends and coworkers! This is a wonderful efficiency our modern society has built into itself. Now anybody can be a courageous superhero, worthy of having books written about them, just by joining a mob!
