Oh man, I wish I could go!

I just received an invitation to see David Chappelle perform at a fundraising event for the Duke Ellington School of the Arts.
There has been a LOT of bitching over the school choosing to name their new theater after Chappelle but the school stuck by it even though a number of students staged a walkout and there were several protests in November. This promises to be a real shit-show, but alas, I can't go.

That would be fun. It’s not easy to cancel a black guy. He’d have to identify as a Republican for that.

Ahhh, I just realized that Monday is the Juneteenth observation as well! Man, I wish I could go.

Most people pretend to care about free speech, but you can probably trust a comedian to actually care.

What I love about this is that it cites Noam Chomsky as the source, which further reinforces his point for anyone who hates Noam Chomsky.

It’s interesting how we got to watch differences in belief in free speech play out in our history at the piano forums. Some people prefer moderation by an authority, some don’t. And as it turns out, that preference is correlated with political preference. I know, shocking.
Oh, and the corollary to comedians actually caring about free speech, is that people with no senses of humor can be trusted not to care too much. I hope there's no further questions which political side is currently the attractant for old buttoned down humorless mainstreamers.
