Noonan's take on the Trump Presidency. She does a nice job of explaining some of his appeal in 2016 at the start of the column - but I think she underestimates the strength of his support for 2024.

Here is a statement from an erstwhile GOP judge who's all-in on the histrionic narrative. Nary a sentence goes by in this statement without some top-shelf word being deployed to impress the gravity of the situation upon the reader. Our entire democracy existed on a precipice we could have pulled back from with a few locked doors. But nobody responsible for locking the doors, or for understanding that they should be locked, is being held accountable. Only the 'insurrectionists', and the evil mastermind behind them, Donald Trump.
