I've not gotten into the weeds of what "disband" means, but just from the thread title, I think of this:

I am sure defunding the police polls well among high status progressives. I wonder how it polls among the underclass they are protecting.

Not sure of course, but there may be more than meets the eye, in terms of what has been going on internally with their police department.
I would assume in a short amount of time, regardless of what the "new and improved" police are called, it will be "New Boss Same As the Old Boss."

Or even more likely, it's not gonna happen, it will be a shell game of moving currently responsible people into different positions, adding some new diversity offices and programs, and making sure the right color and gender is in all leadership positions. Not at all sure if that would be enough, given their immigrant population.

Can't you see it? Defrocked cops cruising slowly through streets littered with broken and moaning bodies and storefront window glass shards, loudspeaking things like, "Don't worry, we're not here to do police stuff. We're just here to send you our thoughts and prayers.
