    Failure rate of canning lids. Mostly Ball, but a couple of other makers, too. 6 out of 100 buckled.

    If you look at some of my older lids, they're thicker. The world today...make it cheaper, but charge more for it.

      The ceramic lids with the thick red rubber seals still work pretty well.

        Unrelated, but kind of related reply... this reminds me of how farmers keep getting more and more efficient by producing more out of the same land, using technology, etc. For example, corn farmers and bushels per acre... keep increasing in order to break even or make a profit. But at some point... you can only squeeze so much juice of out of a lemon.
