My computer's audio is now completely silent!

That is a good thing! For years I have been putting up with em type noise in my powered JBL Studio Monitors https://jblpro.com/products/lsr305 that I use for my PC.
I have been using a Topping D10 USB DAC going to a JBL M-Patch Active-1 I/O with Volume control and 2 head phone ports. From there, it connects to the monitors using 1/4" audio patch cables. The DAC has an optical out but not optical in. I never had a device with optical in until very recently when I bought another Toppping DAC, the DX3 Pro.
I could hear data moving around in the PC. I know that sounds strange but any time a web page would load, or another app would be consuming resources at any given time, the noise would get worse and it was like listening to a transmission of varying frequencies. I tried power conditioning, bought shielded USB cables, swapped out every cable possible. It all came down to the USB ports on my current PC are just noisy as hell. I ordered a pair of Fiber Optic Toslink Male to Male Cord Optical Cables one for this test and another that is being used to bypass the aging DAC chip on my Sony 50 CD changer that also has optical output. I connected one end of the new optical cable to my 10 year old PC motherboard the has optical audio out, and into the optical input of the Topping DAC (DX3 Pro) and my speakers are dead silent, until they need to be. The sound is so much cleaner as well.
I also use an optical interface between my new TV and my 20 year old Sony AV Receiver.
The new PC motherboard will have an optical audio port but I am expecting the USB ports to be silent this time around.
